Keith Polden

Dually Registered Neuropsychologist and Counselling Psychologist with HPCSA Reg No: PS0127329

Keith Polden is dually registered at the HPCSA as a Neuropsychologist and Counselling Psychologist. He is the founder and director of Keith Polden Psychological Services as well as NeuroSense Memory and Mental Health Centre.  Over the last 14 years he underwent extensive training and gained wide-spread experience in neuropsychology, psychological assessment, diagnoses of psychological and psychoneurological conditions and psychological interventions.  Keith specialises in neuropsychological assessments of children, adolescents, adults and the geriatric population.  He also focusses his expertise in medico-legal services (RAF claims, medical negligence, curator applications, work capacity evaluations) as well as forensic psychological services (family law, criminal capacity etc.), context in which he serves as an expert witness in legal matters.  He is involved in the training and supervision of other psychologists in the field of neuropsychology.  He is also an associate in three other neuropsychology practices. Moreover, he provides specialist therapy and counselling for a wider range of psychological difficulties.  He follows an integrative approach in his therapeutic interventions and understands that each client is unique.

A Practice Manager is one of the most critical and highly valued members of the team in a practice. Rina will be your first point of contact at the practice and is able to provide you with information regarding the practice.

She spends most of her time managing the practice and the wonderful team, as well as making sure everything is running smoothly by using her exceptional organizational skills.

Rina is responsible for various domains in the practice such as reception, patient liaison, bookings, Medical Aid authorizations, accounts, billings, payroll, personnel and human resources, marketing and medical program management.

Rina joined the practice in 2015. She is a qualified remedial therapist/teacher whom completed her educational degree in 2010 from the University of Pretoria. She cares deeply about people’s wellness and therefore furthered her education and honed her skills in the field of psychology through the University of South Africa.

Tamwyn Smith is the face you see at the front desk from Monday to Friday between 8:00am and 04:00pm. She is responsible for handling front office reception and administration duties, including greeting of guests and offering them a beverage, answering phone calls, distributing mail, as well as scheduling of appointments.

Tamwyn is currently doing her BA degree in Psychology and would love to pursue her career in this field of study. Family is important to Tamwyn, she has an interest in professional dancing and she enjoys the outdoors.

Deon Beets

Deon completed his BA degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 1997, majoring in Psychology and English Literature. He obtain his HonsBA in Psychology from the University of Stellenbosch in 1998 and registered as a Psychometrist under Supervised Practice. After working at the Western Cape Provincial Government Department of Public Transport and Public Works for a decade, he was restored to the HPCSA’s register in 2010 and registered as a Psychometrist: Independent Practice in 2012.

Deon has consulted for various psychologists across the Western Cape, focusing on Career Guidance and Educational Assessments. He joined the team at Keith Polden and Associates in 2016, where his focus has shifted mainly to cognitive assessments.He is an accredited Myers-Briggs Type Indicator user.

Deon is also an active freelance musician, playing trumpet and double bass for various community ensembles and amateur theater productions on an ad hoc basis.

Melinda is a Registered Psychometrist in Independent Practice. She obtained her teaching diploma in 1998 (Boland College of Education) followed by a higher diploma in special needs education at the University of Stellenbosch (1999). During her time as a teacher she dealt with a broad spectrum of special needs, such as Aspergers, ADHD, ADD and hearing-impaired learners.

After 10 years of teaching (of which six were spent in the United Kingdom), Melinda furthered her studies in psychology. She completed her undergraduate and Honors degree (Cum Laude) at the University of South Africa and her Psychometric Practicum through the University of Johannesburg at an Educational Psychologist.

Melinda volunteered at LifeLine while she was studying, gaining valuable experience as a Lay Counselor and counseling clients from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. She also offered learning support at an educational psychologist’s practice during this time.

In addition, Melinda worked at an NGO where she assessed learners as part of a process for a diagnoses for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and developmental delays.

Cherie Completed her Honours in psychology at the Pearson Institute of Higher Education. She Worked as a teacher for a year where she discovered her passion for children and family therapy. After leaving her position at the school she joined the Employee wellness team at the practise that focuses on working with clients ranging from children to geriatrics and wide range of demographics. She has experience with trauma, grief, loss, anger management, stress management, relationship issues, depression, couples counselling and transitional issues.

Her motto in the work that she does is that we all possess the ability to self-improve and grow. We merely need to push our boundaries and change our thinking, but most of all we need to have patience with ourselves.

When she is not at the practice, she spends her time with animals and nature. She loves photography and creating new art forms and activities that can help her clients heal.

Donné Lance

Donné Lance is a HPCSA registered Clinical Psychologist with a strong clinical background and varied experience in both the public and private healthcare sector; as well as training and teaching in the field. She has special interests in Health Psychology and Integrative medicine with a particular focus on Adult Mental Health and Wellness. Donné prefers to work within an integrative framework, to fit with individual clients’ needs. She is experienced in both short and long term therapy, clinical assessment, and multidisciplinary team interventions. She is a member of the International Golden Key Society for Academic Excellence and a former Executive Member for The Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA).

Authenticity and integrity are of the utmost importance. Donné tries to reflect this through providing a safe, non-judgmental space where therapeutic change can happen through dialogue, presence, and unconditional regard. She enjoys working with a variety of people from a multitude of backgrounds and cultures and considers respect, empathy and commitment to her clients’ and their process of vital in her work.

Mary Vegter

Mary completed her Honours degree (Psychology) in 2016 at the University of the Western Cape.

She then completed Stellenbosch University’s BPsych Equivalence course in 2019.

Her interests lie in Neuropsychology and research, where she hopes to undertake experimental research on neurocognitive disorders.

Mary thoroughly enjoys working with children and enjoys assisting them in reaching their greatest potential.
